FFTOC-Style Fantasy Football for the 2007 NFL Regular Season...
Now you get to start any NFL player you want - but only once a season!
The FFTOC brings a new brand of fantasy football that is perfectly
suited for the most skilled fantasy fanatics. In fact, it's the fairest way to crown a champion. The basics on how to play are simple
enough:
 |
You can start any NFL player you want - but only once |
 |
You start a QB, 2 RBs, 3 WRs, 1 TE, 1 PK and 1 Defense each
week |
 |
Teams compete in the twelve week FFTOC regular season |
 |
Six teams per bracket and each bracket winner doubles their money |
 |
Top 33% of teams advance to play for four weeks in the Finals |
 |
The highest ranking teams from the Finals win cash awards |
Tournament-style is easy to understand - In the first week you'll
submit a starting lineup and the players won't come from a limited
roster, you'll get to select starters from the entire NFL. Any combination
of studs and sleepers that you want.
"Who do I start" now becomes a question that is grand
in scope and is joined by the more strategic decision - "who
do I wait to start?"
From the second week onward until the season ends, your choices
each week are only limited by the rule that you cannot start a player
more than once. Sure, we all want the star players gaining points
for our team and in the Tournament of Champions, they will. But
only once. Better make it count.
At the end of week 12, the highest scoring team in each six-team
bracket doubles their money. The brackets are then disbanded as the
top 33% highest
scoring teams from the regular season advance to play for four more
weeks during the Finals (week 13-16). Only the total scores during
those four weeks will be used to determine the final rankings and
the Tournament Champion.
The Advantage - this isn't
about drafting a team before the season starts and then being locked in!
Tournament-style fantasy football is a fun way to play with unique
advantages that cater best to those skilled fantasy enthusiasts
looking for the ultimate challenge on the most level playing field.
| What's new? |
What it means |
| No travel or time online in
a draft |
You never have to be anywhere
at specific times in order to participate. Your biggest decisions
are never in August before the season starts, they come every
week of the season as you stay abreast of the changing NFL and
apply your strategy. All you ever need to do is submit valid
starting lineups. |
| You have access to all players |
You get to use every stud
player in the NFL, but only in the week you think will benefit
you the most. All your study and research during the season
is magnified since you need to know about all the players, all
the time - not just the ones still available in a draft or free
agency. Getting a big week from a lesser known player is a big
difference maker and could save your studs for the playoffs.
But all teams had that chance. |
| Leveling the playing field |
You'll have no disadvantages
associated with limited access to players. Tournament-style
measures your skills and strategy, not access to trade
buddies or the waiver wire or an early draft pick. The total
points format removes head-to-head matchups that have inherent
elements of random luck. When you qualify for the Finals, it
had nothing to do with fantasy schedules or random draft slots.
You were simply better on the exact same playing field. |
| Circumstances will not keep
you out of the finals. |
Be in the top 33% of teams and qualify for the
Finals. Just because your bracket is tougher than others will
not impact your ability to advance and being in an easier
bracket does not mean an automatic pass to the Finals.
|
| No concern about the "competitive
balance" of a league |
The FFTOC does not have to give bad teams the first shot
at a waiver wire nor roll line-ups for absent owners. The
last drafter in a round does not need to then pick first the
next round as compensation. In the FFTOC, the same scoring
rules apply to all players because there is no need to artificially
inflate the value of a position just to make for a deeper
draft. If you're good enough to bury all your competition,
you better bring a big shovel because no one gets propped
up or given opportunities just to maintain the integrity and parity of
a league.
|
| Tournament Rankings |
All teams will be ranked
based on overall total points until the end of the regular season
in week 12. The top 33% of teams that advance to the Finals will be ranked weekly
until their final rankings are used to determine the winners.
The best "Finals" rankings from every season will continue
to reside on the site in the FFTOC Hall of
Fame. |
| Diligence is rewarded, apathy
is penalized |
When teams are not managed
well, there is no head-to-head advantage gained by one team
more than any other. Failing to submit a lineup earns zero points
that week which actually benefits all other teams, not just
the one that had that random matchup. No rolling lineups for
absent owners - your success is solely based on your ability
to diligently accumulate points. |
| Each week is a new team |
You are not bound to a core
set of starters all season. You are not saddled with a draft
that may prove bad for a variety of reasons outside of your
control. Each week you will get to "draft" an entirely
new team. Tournament-style is really about how good you are
over the entire season, not primarily from one draft night before
the season starts. |
| Player injuries have minimal
effect on your team |
Having your player go down
to injury won't haunt you all season. Your team is back to full
force the very next week and there is no need to acquire a replacement
player. Unlike old-fashion drafting, one random injury to a key player has minimal effect on
your overall points for the season! |
| NFL Gametime decisions are
no longer critical |
No last minute scrambling
when you discover what "questionable" actually meant
that week. In the FFTOC, the official injury report could be
considered as a "not this week" list. If you start
a player, it is because you believe him to be the best option,
never your only option. |
More Strategy More Control
More Ways to Win More You |
Everyone starts the season
with the exact same conditions. No one rides a player all season
nor plays an easier schedule and there is no lasting bad luck
from player injuries or watching your player's NFL team disintegrate
around him. This is all about your ability to evaluate players
and matchups and then strategically determine when using a player
benefits you the most. |
